Sales is a skill to influence others, not a mark of your identity.

Everyone needs these skills and coincidentally the conference was sponsored by 3M, who have a famous story about the creator of post-it notes and influence.

Invented by an employee called Art Fry, post-it notes were yellow because the company refused to let him use normal paper for his idea; waste paper was yellow.

When Fry’s boss turned down his pitch to take the idea into manufacture, Fry had a plan. He produced a small batch of the post-its and sent them to all of the personal assistants of the various bosses within 3M.

When they asked for more, he said “No, my boss won’t let me”. These PAs were not used to ‘no,’ so we know the ending!
